‘Multaka – Intercultural Tours in Athens’ project, is a unique initiative aimed at strengthening intercultural dialogue. It was launched in June 2022 and invites residents and visitors of the city to participate in tours implemented by refugees, migrants, as well as Greeks with an migrant or refugee background, in museums and archaeological sites of Athens.
‘Multaka’ means meeting point in Arabic. Just as the name suggests, the project, implemented by the Athens Development and Destination Management Agency of the City of Athens and designed by the Ministry of Immigration and Asylum, the Ministry of Culture and Sports and the City of Athens, familiarizes migrants and refugees with the history and culture of Greece. At the same time the ‘intercultural guides’ themselves share aspects of their own culture outlining the common references and values between the cultures and starting an intercultural dialogue.
Within the framework of the project, the ‘intercultural guides’ have received special training from the Ministry of Culture and Sports (YPPOA).
