We are Community is recruiting a coordinator of Refugee Week Greece, an annual arts and cultural festival celebrating contributions, creativity and resilience of refugees. The main purpose of this role is to support, encourage and facilitate participation in Refugee Week by a network of hundreds of organisations and groups, ranging from arts organisations to community groups, and to promote Refugee Week.

The ideal candidate will have at least 2 years’ experience of project management, and a deep passion for the arts and refugee rights.

About Refugee Week Greece

Refugee Week Greece is a cultural festival that celebrates the contributions, creativity, and resilience of people who have experienced forced migration. The event aims to raise awareness about the challenges faced by refugees while fostering solidarity, understanding, and inclusion. It showcases various forms of artistic expression, including music, storytelling, visual arts, and performances, all centred on themes related to refugees and migration.

The festival is part of the global Refugee Week movement, which originated in the UK, and it promotes dialogue and community engagement around issues of displacement, cultural diversity, and human rights. In Greece, Refugee Week emphasises the role of creativity in bridging cultural divides and provides a platform for refugees and asylum seekers to share their stories, talents, and perspectives.

The event is co-curated by local organisations, cultural institutions, and community groups, with activities designed to engage both refugee and host communities. The overarching aim is to change narratives about refugees, highlighting their contributions and fostering healing through shared cultural experiences

Role Description 

Key responsibilities:

  • Manage the administration of Refugee Week Greece
  • Answering enquiries from the network and general public
  • Managing and coordinating the Refugee Week Greece partnership of 10 NGOs 
  • Managing the Refugee Week website and digital communications, and producing written resources
  • Coordinating Refugee Week media activity
  • Communicating and reaching out to community groups and cultural organisations
  • Managing production and distribution of Refugee Week merchandise
  • Managing and overseeing the annual budget
  • Developing and maintaining partnerships 
  • Working collaboratively with We are Community team to support the overall work of the organisation
  • Perform other reasonable tasks as required

Person Specification

Essential:

  • Highly organised with proven ability to manage complex projects, with at least two years’ project management experience
  • Collaborative working style with skills in community engagement
  • Excellent written communication, with experience in public-facing digital communications (i.e. Social Media)
  • Ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with people from a range of different sectors and backgrounds
  • An active interest in and knowledge of refugee rights or arts, culture and social change
  • Strong initiative and ability to work independently
  • Good team player
  • Commitment to the vision and values of Refugee Week Greece
  • Experience of managing budgets

Desirable:

  • Experience of working in refugee advocacy/ with refugees and/or arts, culture and social change (paid or voluntary)
  • Additional languages (working language is Greek and English), any additional languages is a bonus
  • Lived experience of displacement or migration
